Indiana Troops Returning Home For The Holidays
Kimberly Martindale is looking forward to traveling to her mom’s for Thanksgiving.
Two members of the brigade Staff Sgt. Brian Miller of Pendleton and Sgt. Joseph Ford of New Albany died during the deployment, both in separate vehicle rollovers.
They’re all among some 3,400 Guard members from cities and small towns across the state who have spent much of the year scattered around Iraq. Some units secured oil pipelines, while others guarded convoy routes or supplied base camps with food, supplies and security.
Capt. Lisa Kopczynski, the brigade’s public affairs officer, said officials had considered letting the troops who hadn’t completed debriefing go home for Thanksgiving and come back to the training camp south of Indianapolis, but decided it would be better to keep them over the holiday so when they go home, they can go home for good.
